All Weather Pitches

On the south side of the Park, by South Carriage Drive, are the All Weather Pitches. Some may remember playing on these with the "cinder" surface, but in 1989 they changed to the astro turf type surface and were refurbished in 1999.All Weather Pitches Information Sign

Funded by Wandsworth Council, the Sports Council and the Football Association, the facility has been designated a Centre of Excellence and meets the high standards needed for Professional and Amateur Football and Hockey.  All pitches are floodlit and there are changing and showering facilities for up to 130 people, making the pitches ideal for tournaments and competitions.  Both full and half pitches can be booked.  Although the pitches have permanent markings for football and hockey, other games and activities can also be played on them.

The Wandsworth Council website has details on how these can be booked.

Sign for All Seasons

Within the frozen Park today,
A ”caution” sign was half-witted.
Warning of ice was quite OK.
Why “No BBQs permitted”?

Please those on duty another day,
Before warnings are transmitted,
By signs or any other way,
Use words that are better fitted.
Philip Wright, January 2010

Grill the frozen fingers?

I have a sign to warn of ice
Because to fall would not be nice
Oh where to put it, what to do
Oh here's a sign, No BBQ

On which I'll mount it, by the gate
Not centred, quite deliberate.
It may bemuse, it may well rile?
I hope, at least, it made you smile.
